Завданням кримінально-виконавчого законодавства України є визначення принципів виконання кримінальних покарань, правового статусу засуджених, гарантій захисту їх прав,
інтересів та обов'язку, порядку застосування до них заходів впливу з метою виправлення; визначення системи органів та установ виконання покарань, їх функцій, нагляду і
контролю за виконанням покарань, порядку та умов виконання та відбування; визначення звільнення від відбування покарання.

The Criminal Executive Code of Ukraine (KVKU, KVN of Ukraine) is a normative act that regulates the procedure for serving a criminal sentence. Entered into force on January
1, 2004, thus repealing the Correctional Labor Code of the USSR.
The criminal-executive legislation of Ukraine regulates the procedure and conditions of execution of criminal punishments in order to protect a person, society, state from
convicts, their correction and resocialization, prevention of new crimes by convicts and other persons, and prevention of illegal treatment of convicts.
The task of the criminal-executive legislation of Ukraine is to determine the principles of execution of criminal punishments, the legal status of convicts, guarantees of
protection of their rights, interests and responsibilities, the procedure for applying to them measures of influence to correct; determination of the system of bodies and
institutions of execution of punishments, their functions, supervision and control over execution of punishments, the order and conditions of execution and serving;
determination of release from serving a sentence.
